The Newfoundland, also called the Moscow Water Dog, originated in what is now part of Canada. Known for its size, long coat, and strong build, this breed was developed before Canadian confederation.

Males can weigh up to 150 pounds, females up to 120 pounds. Newfoundlands are big, gentle, and highly trainable, with coats in brown, black, white, grey, or black. They live up to ten years.
Friendly and not aggressive, Newfoundlands are known for forming bonds with other animals. Videos online show them befriending foxes and other creatures.
