The Caucasian Shepherd Dog, or Ovcharka, was bred in Georgia by Soviet breeders using local shepherd dogs. Also called the Caucasian Mountain Dog or Nagazi, it was developed for working and protecting livestock.

Originating in the Caucasus Mountains, these dogs are massive, with males weighing up to 220 pounds. They live up to 12 years.
Known for their bold and protective nature, Ovcharkas are not for inexperienced owners. Some breeders say they can even take down wolves, but their strong will means they must be handled carefully.
